UPDATE: Man charged with Good Shepherd burglary

GREENVILLE — A Crawford County man was charged Monday with breaking into Greenville’s Good Shepherd Center on June 20 or 21 and stealing a safe containing more than $2,000 in cash and gift cards.

Joseph Petruso, 26, turned himself in Thursday at the Crawford County Jail on unrelated charges stemming from warrants outside of Mercer County, Sgt. Paul Molton of Greenville-West Salem Township police said Monday. He didn’t have details on the warrants.

An anonymous tip and witness interviews led Greenville police to name Petruso a suspect in the burglary, he said. Police allege Petruso pried open a door at the center at 144 Main St. and broke into a locked office area to steal the safe sometime that weekend.

None of the stolen items have been recovered, Molton said.

The non-profit center offers various services and items to those in need and may now add improved security and an alarm system, Mary Ann Reeher, executive director, has said.

Petruso faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. He’s being held in Crawford County Jail and Greenville police are working on bringing him to Mercer County to face the charges.
