Brookfield

Brookfield’s annual Memorial Day parade will begin forming at 9 a.m. Monday behind the Brookfield Middle School on Grove Street. At 10 a.m., the parade will begin and continue west on Grove Street, then south on state Route 7 to Brookfield Township Cemetery. A memorial service will be held below the flag pole at the back of the cemetery immediately following the parade.

Farrell-Wheatland

The Farrell-Wheatland War Memorial Committee sponsors a parade at 9:30 a.m. Monday. It will move from Farrell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, south on Indiana Avenue and east on Roemer Boulevard to the war memorial.

Greenville

Greenville is hosting a parade at 9 a.m. Monday that will start on Main Street, stop at American Legion Post 140 and head to the Shenango Valley Cemetery on College Avenue. Greenville-West Salem Township police will escort the parade. Participants include community members, veterans, Boy and Girl scouts, Greenville High School band, VFW members and guest speaker State Rep. Michele Brooks, Jamestown, R-17th District. Scouts will place flags at gravesites and the parade will return to the American Legion.

Hermitage

Hickory Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6166 will hold a Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. Monday that starts at the former Hermitage Middle School and proceeds west on East State Street to Hillcrest Memorial Park.

A ceremony will follow the parade at 11 a.m. Lt. Col. Randy Readshaw will be the keynote speaker.

Readshaw, a Hermitage native, is a 1982 graduate of Hickory High School and a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he joined ROTC. While at IUP, he enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard and accepted a commission in the Army upon graduation.

During his 22-plus-year career with the Army he has served with the 101st Airborne Division and other multinational commands while deployed in Operation Desert Storm, Bosnia, and Iraq, where he served two tours of duty.

Readshaw retired from the Army in April and is employed by the Army Recruiting Command in Harrisburg as a Soldier and Family Assistance Program Manager. He is a life member of Hickory VFW Post 6166.

Lakeview

Lakeview Community observes Memorial Day at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township, at 10 a.m. Monday.

Featured guest speaker will be Sgt. First Class H. Daniel Tulip. He served 3èyears active duty in Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division, U.S. Army, military police. He is a multiple bronze star recipient. He is a 1987 Reynolds High School graduate.

Also Boy Scout Troop 86 and Cub Scout Pack 89 of Sandy Lake will serve as Honor Guard. Bagpiper Mark Bodamer, Chris Gilliland singing the National Anthem and music provided by Lakeview High School Marching Band. Please bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, observance will be moved to the Lakeview United Methodist Church across from the cemetery.

The event is sponsored by the Lakeview Area Ministerium and the Scott a. Black Funeral Home.

Mercer

Honor veterans and fallen heroes at Mercer Memorial Day 500, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday on the square around Mercer County Courthouse. Events include:

• Race Through the Flags, 9 to 9:30 a.m. — a 5k foot race through the 500 flags posted along Pitt Street. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. by the Civil War Monument and the race begins at the post office. Info: www.mercermemorial day500.homestead.com.

• Fun and games for kids on North Diamond Street, 9 to 11 a.m.

• Patriotic program, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. — A USO-type show with the American Belles from New York City will highlight Vietnam at the courthouse bandstand.

• Veterans reception, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on the south side of the courthouse. Veterans are invited to sit, eat, visit, relax and enjoy the music.

• Military induction ceremony, 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., courthouse bandstand. New recruits take a public oath to serve their country.

• Parade, 11 a.m. to noon, featuring 75 marching units and six musical groups, along Pitt Street from the post office to Citizens Cemetery.

• Memorial Salute, noon to 1 p.m., Citizens Cemetery.

• Blackhawk helicopter on display, 1 to 2 p.m. Citizens Cemetery.

In case of rain events will be held at Mercer High School.

Sharon

Sharon American Legion Post 299, will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.

Sharpsville

Memorial Day observance will begin with a wreath laying at 9 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Monument at Shenango and Walnut streets. A parade will follow to Riverside Cemetery where the annual program will be held.
