Motorcycle crash claims life of Jackson Center councilman

CRAWFORD COUNTY — A longtime Jackson Center councilman died Sunday from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle wreck Saturday on U.S. Route 19 in Crawford County.

Danny Boggs, 74, died in the intensive care unit at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, a nursing supervisor confirmed. Boggs, a Sharon Steel retiree, served on Jackson Center Borough Council for 35 years.

Boggs was flown to Hamot after his motorcycle collided with his grandson’s at 5:04 p.m. Saturday while the two were trying to avoid other vehicles that had stopped abruptly when a silver car slowed to make a left turn, Vernon Township police said.

Boggs’ grandson Gary A. Kern, 37, of Pittsburgh was also injured in the crash and was treated at Meadville Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.

Vernon Township police are seeking information from witnesses regarding the silver car or its driver. Anyone with information should contact police at 814-333-6309.
