FINDLEY TOWNSHIP — Two Mercer County Jail inmates are charged with simple assault for allegedly grabbing and trying to restrain a guard Feb. 22 in their cell.
Brian Fiedler, 20, and Donald M. Perrine, 19, had charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct held to court recently by District Judge Lorinda Hinch, Mercer. A count of aggravated assault filed against Fiedler was dismissed.
At about 7:45 p.m., a guard brought Fiedler back from his recreation time and uncuffed him in his cell, sheriff’s deputies said. When the guard tried to leave, Fiedler grabbed him from behind in a bear hug, pinning his arms to his sides.
“This caused (the guard) great alarm and fear for his safety, due to him being far in the cell and another inmate also present,” deputies said. The guard slammed Fiedler into the wall of the cell, causing him to release his hold.
Then, both Perrine and Fiedler grabbed the guard’s arms, deputies said. He was able to free himself and leave the cell.
At one point before the commotion, Perrine also took the guard’s pen, but gave it back when ordered, deputies said.
Fiedler also had vandalism and related charges held to court for a Feb. 4 incident where he allegedly broke the sprinklers in his cell after not being permitted to speak to a specific guard.
Deputies did not say whether he wanted to speak to the same guard he allegedly attacked.
Fiedler and Perrine, both formerly of the same Grove City address, are in jail on charges of burglarizing a fast-food restaurant and an apartment, stealing money, beer, a sword, a knife set, a digital camera and a 4-foot ball python.
