Farrell teen accused of stealing 2 vehicles in Sharon

SHARON — A Farrell boy faces charges after two vehicles were stolen from a city-used car lot over the weekend.

Sharon police Chief Mike Menster Tuesday said police found two vehicles at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday parked on top of the city parking garage downtown.

Police found the 2000 Ford Explorer and 2000 Chevrolet Impala belonged to Phil’s Auto Sales and Service, 405 Walnut St., Sharon, Menster said. Police ran a check on the license plates, but found they were stolen from a different Sharon car lot, police said.

Phil’s owner Phillip Cooper said someone broke into the shop and stole the keys to the vehicles.

Menster said police relinquished custody of the vehicles to Cooper that morning and that a tow truck couldn’t get to them in the garage so they were left there.

Cooper said he mechanically disabled the Explorer so it couldn’t be driven and let the air out of a tire on the car until he could get new keys for them.

At about 4 p.m. Sunday, Menster said a patrolman saw the car at Dock Street and Connelly Boulevard and followed it into Farrell. The car had a “minor crash” on Roemer Boulevard, Menster said, and five people ran from the scene.

All the passengers were caught except the driver, who was later identified as a 16-year-old from Farrell, Menster said. All but one of the passengers was a juvenile, he said.

The driver is being petitioned to juvenile court on charges of receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment, fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving, Menster said.

The boy is the only one facing charges at this time, Menster said.

A black 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier with flames painted on both sides was also stolen from Phil’s overnight Oct. 24, police said. Cooper said that car hasn’t been found.
