Cops subdue man who taunted, spit on them

BROOKFIELD — Even after being shot Sataurday by Brookfield police with an electronic device, a Masury man wasn’t willing to stop taunting police.

“Is that all you got?,” police said Justin D. Ulan, 26, of 736 Linden St., told them after they shocked him. Minutes earlier, Ulan was threatening to fight and spitting in the faces of two patrolmen.

Patrolman Terry Gigax began following Ulan’s vehicle around 2:10 a.m. Saturday after he turned onto Brookfield Avenue from Davis Street without pausing for a stop sign.

He noticed Ulan driving recklessly and pulled him over on Warren-Sharon Road.

Ulan then got out of his car, ripped off his shirt and began screaming at Gigax, threatening to fight him.

Gigax said Ulan at first refused to follow his orders and the two were involved in a brief struggle before Ulan was handcuffed and taken to the police station.

Police said Ulan smelled heavily of alcohol and had about 12 cans of beer in the backseat of his car.

At the station, Ulan continued to scream at police, even asking for his handcuffs to be removed so he could fight two of them.

Police told him he would remained handcuffed until he calmed down, they said.

Ulan then spit in both of their faces and later tried to kick and headbutt police before he was shocked py police.

Police then charged Ulan with resisting arrest, drunken driving, disorderly conduct, failing to comply with police orders and several traffic violations.

While taking Ulan to Trumbull County Jail, police said he tried to kick out the police cruiser’s rear window and banged his head off the metal partition about 15 or 20 times.

Police said Ulan is a known drug user and Gigax wasn’t sure if any of Ulan’s spit made its way into his mouth.

Gigax plans to take a blood test to check for possible exposure to Ulan’s bodily fluids, he said.

Police also said they will request a warrant to test Ulan’s blood for possible diseases.
