SHENANGO TOWNSHIP —
“Everything I couldn’t fit in my house,” was stored in Mark and Beth Deprano’s garage.
The Shenango Township residents were emotional as they watched the garage burn to the ground Sunday evening.
The two-story, 42-foot-by-40-foot garage was leveled by a raging inferno fueled by the gasoline in four vehicles that were parked inside.
“It’s a total loss,” Shenango Township Fire Chief Bill Williams said of the garage, located just behind the Deprano’s home at 38 Berkovich Lane, a dead end road up the hill from Campground Road along the Shenango River.
Firefighters were able to keep the house from catching in the blaze, which burned fiercely for about an hour.
It started about 5 p.m., just as the Depranos were getting ready to eat dinner, Beth Deprano said.
The cause of the blaze was “undetermined,” Williams said.
It spread quickly and Mark Deprano said he wasn’t able to try to salvage anything.
Also destroyed was a golf cart, tools, “all my mom’s stuff” and “everything I couldn’t fit in my house,” Mark Deprano said.
“Our hot peppers are all gone,” Beth Deprano said.
“I don’t have a clue as to how much,” the destroyed items may have been worth, Mark Deprano said.
The garage was insured, he said.
The Depranos said they were thankful firefighters were able to keep their house from burning too.
Shenango Township was assisted by Pulaski and Wheatland firefighters, Williams said. He was at the scene until 9:30 p.m.
