UPDATE: Senior apartment complex opens in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN — A new apartment complex for senior citizens has opened in Jamestown and spaces are still available.

The Lutheran Village at Jamestown at 500 Railroad St. is owned and operated by Jamestown Senior Housing Corp., a subsidiary of Lutheran Service Society. said a news release issued by Leslie Montgomery, director of volunteer services for Lutheran Service Society, Pittsburgh.

The society is a nonprofit, faith-based provider of social services that also helps oversee Lakeview Manor senior apartments in Stoneboro.

The two-story complex features 27, one-bedroom apartments that measure 540 square feet and include a kitchen with a stove and refrigerator, combined living and dining room, private bathroom, carpeting, heating and air conditioning.

“People started moving in today. It’s really exciting,” Ms. Montgomery said Wednesday.

About half of the apartments are filled and remaining units can be rented by eligible seniors meeting income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, she said.

The project was funded by HUD and construction started in September. The cost of the project was unavailable Wednesday, Ms. Montgomery said.

The public is invited to a dedication ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the complex with refreshments, a ribbon-cutting and tour of the facilities, which include a laundry room and community room.

Key project officials set to speak at the ceremony include: Doug McElhaney, president of Jamestown council; Jamestown Mayor Esther McClimans; James Antoniono, Lutheran Service Society board chair; and Bishop Ralph Jones of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
