New president will need support of all Americans

On Thursday I was filled with so much joy and excitement for our new president-elect that I decided to wear my Obama T-shirt and pin, just one more time, as I did my errands around the Shenango Valley. I didn’t do this to be smug or condescending to anyone who chose not to support Sen. Obama. I did it out of pure joy.

As I did my errands, some people looked at my shirt, shook their heads, dropped their eyes and I saw fear written all over them. I couldn’t believe it. My heart goes out to them and this message is for them — Hope!

President-elect Obama is going to be president for all of us — regardless of skin color, gender, religious beliefs, abilities, disabilities, if we are poor or rich. He has promised to work for all of us — and he is going to need help — from all of us.

Instead of pointing fingers, looking for faults and expecting miracles in his first 100 days, we all must dig in and help our new president. He has inherited the biggest mess our country has ever been in and he can’t fix it himself — he needs us.

Instead of spending time worrying or being fearful, let’s use that time in service to make our communities better places for our children and grandchildren. Together we can make a difference! Help = Hope! Hope = Joy!! Joy = Love = Compassion = Peace! Peace is contagious — what a great thing to spread around our community and our world — Peace! Our world community is so excited that we have elected Barack Obama the next president of the United States of America — he is their president too. He is offering the world hope too.

I have hope and I am praying that hearts will be healed and fears will be dissolved. I am praying for our new president and his family, that God will protect and guide them, that President-elect Obama will have the wisdom and strength it is going to take to be the leader of our country in these difficult times. I am praying for the world, every day, that our diverse nation and world will be at peace, and someday, as it says in the “Our Father” prayer, “the Earth will be as Heaven.”
