Alfreda Mae McCracken

Bethany Presby member was gardener, traveler


A funeral service will be held Thursday for Alfreda Mae McCracken of 30 Old Ash Road, Springfield Township. She passed away at 8:02 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township. She was 82.

Mrs. McCracken was born Oct. 28, 1927, in Springfield Township to Alfred Davis Ramsey and Mildred Salinda Peck Ramsey.

A homemaker, she was a member for more than 60 years of Bethany Presbyterian Church of Mercer and its Kappa Chi Sunday school class.

She enjoyed activities with the ladies of the Pennsylvania Lions Club. She also enjoyed tending her flower gardens, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.

Alfreda opened her heart, home and loving arms to those family members who needed her care. Her faith was a big part of her life and remained intact throughout her lifetime. Her family and friends will miss her gentle smile, nurturing spirit and loving arms. We thank her for everything and will greatly miss her.

Her husband, Clarence Wayne McCracken, whom she married Nov. 15, 1947, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: a son, Gary W. McCracken and his wife Rhonda, Volant; two daughters, Sandra L. and her husband Jerry Hanna, Grove City; and Debra S. and her husband David Graham, Volant; a brother, S. Lee Ramsey, Volant; seven grandchildren, Gary McCracken Jr., Melissa Sekera, Chad Hanna, Brandon Hanna, Jason Graham, Jeremy Graham and Jayme Graham; and nine great-grandchildren, Justin, Cameron, Bryce, Delan, Macie, Tristan, Malachi, Michaela and Brayden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Snyder.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (3-17-10) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME OF LEESBURG, 1778 Perry Highway, Springfield Township.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday (3-18-10) in the funeral home with the Rev. James Leuenberger, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian church, Mercer, officiating.

Interment: Leesburg Cemetery, Springfield Township.
