FROSTBURG, Md. — Alta Marie Algoe Schramm of Lonaconing, Md., died early Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 2010, in Frostburg Village Nursing Home. She was 85.
Born on May 22, 1924, in Masury, Mrs. Schramm was a daughter of Walter and Genevieve Pindle Algoe.
She trained as a nurse in 1945 at Alliance (Ohio) City Hospital, where she became a registered nurse.
Mrs. Schramm worked at Children’s Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital, both Akron. After leaving Akron, she continued her nursing at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. From 1956-63, she worked at Miner’s Hospital, Frostburg, then went on the work at Frostburg State University from 1963-85. She retired as a registered nurse in 1985.
As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lonaconing, Mrs. Schramm belonged to the Marian Circle. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star Martha Washington Chapter 10 and George’s Creek Senior Citizens, both Lonaconing.
Besides her husband, Charles William Schramm, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bernard Algoe.
Mrs. Schramm is survived by: a son, Charles “Sonny” McKinley Schramm and his wife Jean, Poolesville, Md.; three grandchildren, Charles Schramm Jr. and his wife Carri, Kevin Schramm and his wife Kristina and Laura Schramm; four great-grandchildren, Melanie, Julia, Joey and Kaitlyn; a brother, Walter Algoe and his wife Joyce, Hermitage; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours: Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (2-11-10) in EICHHORN-McKENZIE FUNERAL HOME P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing.
Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday (2-12-10) in the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating.
Interment: Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Md.
