Roy L. Young, of 1 Grandview Drive, Hadley (Perry Township), passed away at 12:41 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Meadville Medical Center. He was 83.
Mr. Young was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Transfer, a son of Clair and Sarah McCutcheon Young.
On April 20, 1953, he married the former Doris Flick, who preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2008.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Following his military service, Roy began working at Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, Greenville, for five years, then worked for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and subsequently for General American Transportation Corp.�s former Masury plant, where he was employed for 20 years. He also had worked as a sporting goods salesman and for Warner Continental Trucking. In his later years, he was a used car salesman for Eells Used Cars, Meadville.
Roy was an active member of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, where he held various offices throughout the years.
He was a former officer and member of the Commodore Perry Lions Club and belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Cpl. James O. Jordan Post 3374, Hempfield Township.
He is survived by: a daughter, Linda L. Hall, Atlantic; two sons, the Rev. Larry E. Young and his wife Ella, Hamilton, Ohio; and Donald Young and his wife Dianna, Highland Springs, Va.; a foster son, Clifton Williams, Hadley; 12 grandchildren, Traci Hall, Tristan Young, Jeremy Young, Benjamin Young, Michael Young, Matthew Young, Rebecca Schram, Larry Young Jr., Kyle Bell, Kent Bell, Kevin Bell and Kris Bell; and many great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife of 55 years, Doris, Roy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clair Young Jr.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, Box 187, Sheakleyville, PA 16151.
