A funeral service will be held Monday for Elizabeth “Betty” W. Silverman, 750 Koonce Road, Hermitage. She passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning (2-5-10) in her residence. She was 85.
Mrs. Silverman was born April 9, 1924, in Sharon, a daughter of Frederick and Hazel Robinson Wiener.
Betty was a 1942 graduate of Sharon High School and was instrumental in many of her class reunions through the years.
A homemaker, she was active in her community and served on several boards through the years including Mercer County Crippled Children’s Association and the Julia F. Buhl Girls Club. Some of Betty’s other memberships included Order of the Eastern Star and Sharon Country Club. She was a past officer and volunteer for Friends of the Library, Sharon.
Betty enjoyed volunteering locally in past years for the Meals-on-Wheels program and made delicious cakes as dessert.
Betty will be remembered for her wonderful smile and remarkable personality; she will be sadly missed by all her girlfriends in the “Sewing Club.” She enjoyed sewing and she was a very talented cross stitcher; her work adorned her home.
Her husband, Robert B. Silverman, whom she married on Dec. 17, 1949, survives at the residence. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Betty’s family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Community Library of the Shenango Valley, 11 N. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
