Marie E. Dalo, formerly of Highland Road, Sharon, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Friday (9-30-11) in White Cliff Nursing Home, Greenville, where she was a resident since May. She was 97.
Mrs. Dalo was born May 18, 1914, in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Peter W. and Mae L. (Gifford) Spitzig.
She was a 1931 graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Cleveland, and, earlier in her life, worked as a secretary and switchboard operator for three years at Sears Roebuck and Co.
A homemaker, Marie was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. She served on the building committee when the current church was being constructed and also served on the building committee when Kennedy Christian High School was built.
Marie and her husband owned and operated The Nut Shop with two former locations in downtown Sharon.
Her husband, Ferdinand A. Dalo, whom she married Nov. 11, 1939, passed away Nov. 14, 2006.
Surviving are: a daughter, Donna M. Bartosh and her husband Andrew, Sharpsville; a son, Roger S. Dalo, Warren, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Julie Sherretts; Lisa O’Hara and her husband Jeffrey; Drew Bartosh; and Janelle, Justin, Maggie and Megan Dalo; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by a son, Ronald J. Dalo; a brother, William Spitzig; and a sister, Dorothy Spitzig.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
