Ethel C. Bromley of 621 Fredonia Road, Delaware Township, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in her residence. She was 95.
Mrs. Bromley was born on Aug. 20, 1914, in Fredonia, a daughter of Ervin Albert and Carrie Moyer Bortz.
She was a graduate of the former Fredonia Institute.
Ethel had assisted her husband, James R. Bromley, whom she married on Sept. 28, 1935, in the daily operations of the family farm in Delaware Township. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2001.
She also had worked in the kitchen of the former Payne Livestock Auction in Greenville.
Ethel was a long-standing member of the former St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fredonia; and a 70-year member of Stoney Point Grange #1694, Delaware Township, where she had held many offices throughout the years. She also belonged to the Stoney Point Lady’s Club.
Ethel enjoyed quilting and crocheting, having made many quilts in her younger years. She also was an avid canner.
She is survived by: a son, Richard I. Bromley and his wife Lillian, Greenville; a sister, Opal Wilson, North East, Pa.; her caregiver, Alice Aley, who provided comfort and excellent care for the past several years; three grandchildren, Richard I. Bromley Jr. and his wife Tammy; and Melanie A. Courtney, all Greenville; and Monica L. Ziegler and her husband Tim, Poland, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Floyd Bortz and Norman Bortz; a sister, Sara Courtney; and several nieces and nephews.
