Jean L. Hurst of 2255 Valley View Road, Hermitage, passed away at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in St. Paul’s, West Salem Township, after an extended illness. She was 78.
Mrs. Hurst was born Friday, Sept. 4, 1931, in Sharpsville to Harlan L. and Cecile Cannon Gibson.
She was an alumna of Hickory High School, class of 1949, Hermitage.
Jean worked as a clerk for 25 years at the former Kaufmann’s, now Macy’s department store, Hermitage, retiring in 2000.
She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Hermitage.
Jean enjoyed sewing, crafts, camping and spending time with her family.
Her husband, Edward C. Hurst, whom she married Aug. 3, 1951, survives at home.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Debbie and her husband Mark Lucas, Hubbard; and Connie and her husband Nick Perrotta, Delaware, Ohio; two sons, Bill A. Hurst and his wife Diane, Jamestown; and John E. Hurst and his wife Carolyn, Huntsville, N.C.; a sister, Marion and her husband Joe Roch, Sharpsville; a brother, Edwin “Harlan” Gibson and his wife Debbie, Hermitage; four grandchildren, Amy Jenyk, Paul Lucas, and Lauren and Kevin Hurst; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jarren Jenyk.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Thomas Gibson.
