Charles A. Sheets Jr.

Erie Diocese priest served at St. Joseph Church

SUMTERVILLE, Fla. — Charles Albert Sheets Jr., formerly of Falls Creek, Pa., passed away Sunday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2009, in Lane Purcell Hospice House, Sumterville. He was 65.

Mr. Sheets was born Aug. 17, 1944, in Annapolis, Md., a son of Charles Albert Sheets Sr. and Cleo Marie McAlee Sheets.

Charles was a graduate of DuBois (Pa.) Central Catholic High School; St. Francis University in Latrobe, Pa.; the University of Colorado, from which he received a master’s degree in psychology; and St. Mary’s Seminary, Baltimore.

He served as a priest of the Erie Diocese, as a parochial vicar at St. Jude the Apostle Parish and Holy Rosary Parish, both Erie; and St. Joseph Parish in Sharon; and as pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Walston, Pa.; St. Adrian Parish, Delancey, Pa.; and St. Joseph Parish, Anita, Pa.

Survivors include: two brothers, John Sheets and his wife Mary, Sparks, Nev.; and Col. Patrick Sheets and his wife Joyce, Las Vegas; a sister, Ann Marie Kent and her husband Howard, Simi Valley, Calif.; a cousin, Daniel Armagost and his wife Lori, California; an aunt, Lillian Bliskey and her husband Eugene, Lady Lake, Fla.; uncles, Jack McAlee and his wife Lillian, Johnsonburg, Pa.; and William McAlee and his wife Eileen, Colorado; his stepmother, Sharlene Sheets, Ashburn, Va.; and four nephews, three nieces and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in the chapel of St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
