James Earl Donahue Sr.

Polk-area man retired from National Castings


James Earl Donahue Sr. of 1429 Raymilton Road, Mineral Township, Venango County (Polk), died at 12:12 p.m. Sunday (11-15-09) in St. Elizabeth’s Health Center, Youngstown, after injuries he suffered in a motor vehicle accident Oct. 25 in Clarks Mills. He was 78.

Born Nov. 20, 1930, in Yale, Ky., Mr. Donahue was a son of William Luther Donahue and Mildred Gertrude Harding Donahue.

He attended school in Kentucky.

Mr. Donahue retired from National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp. in Sharon after 27 years of service as a crane operator.

He loved the outdoors and hunting and, especially, fishing and riding his four-wheeler. He enjoyed watching sports.

He is survived by: two daughters, Betty M. Diefenderfer and her husband Jerry, Hermitage; and Wanda L. Golub and her husband Randy, Flowery Branch, Ga.; two sons, James E. Donahue Jr. and his wife Cindi, Kaufman, Texas; and Richard G. Donahue, Gainesville, Ga.; eight grandchildren and five great-granddaughters; two sisters, Mary Donahue, Erie; and Phyllis Polka and her husband John, Franklin; a brother, Ova Donahue, Stoneboro; and a former wife, Hazel Reash, Flowery Branch.

James was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; two sisters, Hattie Umstead and Lillian Donahue; and three brothers, Howard, Dickson and Carlos Donahue.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday (11-19-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. Terry L. Greenlee, pastor of Jackson Center Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
