JACKSON, Mich. — James Leonard McCoy of Jackson passed away at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in his home. He was 73.
Mr. McCoy was born on Good Friday, April 10, 1936, in McCoytown in Pine Township, a son of Charles Mead McCoy and Alice Carly McCoy.
Leonard graduated from Mercer High School, class of 1954. He graduated from Grove City College, class of 1958, with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
In 1959, he joined the Navy and attended OCS in Rhode Island, graduating as an ensign. He served on the USS Monrovia with the Mediterranean fleet followed by reserve duty, attaining the rank of lieutenant.
Leonard established his home in Michigan, first in Dexter and Ann Arbor, then Ypsilanti, and finally Jackson.
He was employed as a certified professional engineer and established his own consulting business.
Leonard excelled in the adventure of sports, hunting, especially the pursuit of the ruffed grouse with his hunting partners, and the companionship of his dogs through many years in the coverts. Cappy, Grunter, Myo, Pecas I and Pecas II served him well.
Leonard is survived by a sister, Clara E. and her husband James Knapp, Texas; a brother, Charles M. McCoy, Pennsylvania; a sister, Patricia L. McCoy, wife of Allen C. McCoy, who is deceased, Pennsylvania; as well as 11 nieces and nephews and their children.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
His family, his companions and Pecas II will miss his presence on the skiremish line.
