Lorinda “Phyllis” Reichard of Transfer went home to be with the Lord at 3:20 a.m. Monday morning, Nov. 16, 2009, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. She was 87.
Eugene and Edna Seiple Hogue gave birth to Phyllis on March 27, 1922, in Transfer, one of 10 siblings.
Mrs. Reichard lived in Transfer her entire life and was a graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.
She was waitressing at a local restaurant when she met Donald “Don” E. Reichard, who was delivering eggs. Don and Phyllis were married Sept. 14, 1942.
They owned and operated the Reichard Farm, which primarily raised chickens for eggs, with 25,000 chickens, at one point. Phyllis and all her family had egg routes throughout Sharon, Greenville and Sharpsville. She met a lot of friends on those routes and collected many favorite recipes.
Her entire family loved vacationing and took annual fishing trips to Roseneath, Canada, at Rice Lake. Most of her siblings and grandchildren got to experience the great family gatherings at Sandercock’s Resort, Ontario.
Phyllis also traveled throughout her life on many church trips as a devout Christian and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Delaware Township.
After the passing of Don, Phyllis went on to work in the greenhouse at Kraynak’s Nursery and Garden Center, Hermitage. She loved gardening, cooking and baking, and, most of all, spending time with the family and grandchildren.
During the past few years, Phyllis was able to remain home due to family and dear friends. She was able to live and enjoy Florida with her daughter, Nancy. Carmen Reichard, her daughter-in-law, watched over her at her home in Transfer. Both Joan Little and Linda Hoover, who were her caretakers, cared for her in every way. Phyllis loved them all very deeply.
She leaves a legacy of love and memories of her wonderful smiles for everyone she met.
Besides her husband, Donald, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas; and the following siblings, Madaline, Lovida, Rose, Ida, Evelyn, Alice, Dave and John.
She is survived by: her daughter, Nancy Reichard, Florida; her son, James Reichard and daughter-in-law, Fader, Salem, Ohio; her brother, Earl Hogue and his wife Fanny, Mercer; and her daughter-in-law, Carmen Reichard, Transfer. In addition, she has nine grandchildren, Janice Fisher, Keith Reichard, Duane Reichard, Paula Reichard, Kevin Reichard, Jay Duffy, Erin Duffy, Jennifer Stephens and Heather Reichard. She was an extremely proud great-grandmother of eight.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 3695 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 301, Canfield, OH 44406.
