Edward E. Stanek, 1721 S. Judy Lynn Drive, Farrell, died at 3:56 p.m. Friday (11-6-09) peacefully at home, surrounded by his family to go home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunited with his son Daryl, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 82.
Mr. Stanek was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Farrell to Ignacy and Maryanna (Korab) Stanek.
He graduated in 1945 from Farrell High School and attended Youngstown State University.
Edward worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 38 years as a senior accounting analyst, retiring in 1985. He also worked 28 years for the City of Farrell -- 16 years as city controller and 12 years as city accountant and redevelopment accountant.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.
Edward was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard, in which he served in the Merchant Marines.
He was a charter member of Farrell Knights of Columbus, where he served as treasurer for 10 years; member of Farrell Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 299, Sharon; PNA Bowling League in Thornton Hall, Sharon; and Westinghouse golf league. He was an avid bocce player at the Farrell VFW.
Edward enjoyed playing bocce, golf, traveling to casinos and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Crivello) Stanek, whom he married May 20, 1950; three daughters, Bonnie Kamerer, and her husband, Jim, of Howland, Ohio; Lisa Coller, and her husband, Ralph, of Hartford, Ohio; and Susan Marosek and her husband, Mitchell, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, Mark Stanek, and his wife, Karen, of Spring, Texas; three sisters, Helen Borawski, Farrell; and Laura Smaltz and Cecelia Janusko, both of Hermitage; two brothers, Alex Stanek and Henry Stanek, both of Hermitage; and seven grandchildren, Monica Coller Merchant, Masury; Jason and Brian Kamerer, Howland; Rick and Ryan Coller, Atlanta, Ga.; and Taylor and Nicole Marosek, California.
In addition to his son, Daryl, Edward was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Robinson, and two brothers, Ted and Benjamin Stanek.

Service was Nov. 9, 2009 in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, with the Rev. Donald Berdis and the Rev. Msgr. Salvatore P. Mitchell, retired pastor, officiating.
Burial: St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
