A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Carl Benadella of Masury. He passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. He was 90.
Mr. Benadella was born April 16, 1919, in Masury to Carlo and Madeline Vitti Benadella.
He was a 1938 graduate of Brookfield High School, then served our country in the Army with the 677th Military Police Platoon in the 12th Armored Division during World War II. He participated in several campaigns in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, southern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. His decorations include the Purple Heart for wounds suffered Feb. 17, 1945; a Good Conduct Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars.
Following his return from the war, he married the former Matilda Roth on May 20, 1950, in St. Bernadette’s Church in Masury. They shared more than 59 years of marriage.
Carl was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 40 years before his retirement in 1987.
He was a lifetime member of St. Bernadette’s Church; a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 3984, Masury; and enjoyed playing euchre with several of his friends on Wednesdays.
Mr. Benadella is survived by his wife, Tillie, at home; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carmen Benadella; and his sister, Mary Papale.
As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Bernadette’s Church, 7808 Locust St., Masury, OH 44438; or Great East of Ohio Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, 3695 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield, OH 44406, to further Alzheimer’s Research toward a cure.

Service: Closing prayers will begin at 9:45 a.m. Monday (11-16-09) in the funeral home chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Bernadette’s Church, Masury. The Rev. Frank Zanni, pastor, will be celebrant, with Raymond Allison, John Shargo, Timothy Letourneau, Richard Moore, James Weller and Gary Roth as pallbearers.
Burial: Brookfield Township Cemetery, with full military honors by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
