K. Leora McCommon of 238 S. Market St., New Wilmington, formerly of Rose Avenue, New Castle, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington. She was 93.
Miss McCommon was born May 30, 1916, in Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, to Clyde B. and Martha Holliday McCommon.
Miss McCommon graduated from the former Plain Grove High School in 1934 and Grove City College in 1938.
She retired in 1973 as a teacher from Shenango Area School District, having taught Latin and history in Shenango High School.
As a member of Third Presbyterian Church in New Castle, Miss McCommon was a former deacon and a member of the Queen Esther Sunday school class.
She was a former member of both the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association. She also belonged to the AARP, a retired person’s organization; and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Miss McCommon was a former member of the American Business Women’s Association; the Lucky 13 Club and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 332; Wimodausis, New Castle; N.R.T.H. and P.R.S.E.
Surviving are two nieces, Karen S. and her husband Charles Chanadet, Grove City; and Lisa K. and her husband James Rhenish, Huron, Ohio; and four nephews, Harry Clyde McCommon and his wife Martha; and Kenneth John “Bud” McCommon and his wife Beverly, all St. Cloud, Fla.; Wayne McCommon and his wife Francis, Grove City; and Todd W. Burns and his wife Jackie, Stoneboro.
Also surviving are several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary E. Burns; two brothers, Arthur L. and Kenneth L. McCommon; a niece, Shirley Dyer; a nephew, Robert McCommon; and a great-nephew, Douglas McCommon.

Interment: South Plain Grove (Township) Cemetery, Lawrence County.
