Joan G. DeMarsh

Homemaker was involved in SRU children’s program

Joan G. DeMarsh of 4229 William Flynn Highway, Mercer Township, Butler County (Harrisville), passed away at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in Grove Manor, Grove City, after an extended illness. She was 65.

Mrs. DeMarsh was born May 13, 1944, in New Castle to Lloyd and Effina Richards Davis.

She was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1962.

Joan was previously involved with the parents’ association at the former Lab School for Children at Slippery Rock University.

As a homemaker, she belonged to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Forestville, Butler County, and was a former member of St. Anthony’s Christian Mothers.

Joan was an avid swimmer and dancer and enjoyed walking. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with her dogs.

Her husband, Paul C. DeMarsh, whom she married June 27, 1964, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two sons, Paul E. and Matthew D. DeMarsh, both Harrisville; three sisters, Dixie Neff, Zelienople; Barbara Smith and her husband Glenn, New Wilmington; and Virginia Williams and her husband Philip, Hillsboro, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allegheny Valley Schools, Slippery Rock Program Center, 125 Rebecca Lane, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (11-5-09) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday (11-6-09) in St. Anthony’s Church, Forestville, with the Rev. Kevin G. Poecking as celebrant.

Interment: St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Harrisville.
