Charles Edward Gosnell

Navy boxer, truck driver enjoyed golf, hunting

A memorial service will be held Wednesday for Charles Edward Gosnell of 19 22nd St. Extension, Pymatuning Township, formerly of West Middlesex. He passed away at 9:38 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage, after an extended illness. He was 68.

Mr. Gosnell was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Youngstown to John and Geraldine Riendl Gosnell.

He attended Conneautville High School.

A truck driver, he was employed for 20 years by Preston Trucking of West Middlesex and for five years at Dana Trucking of Ohio, retiring in 2003.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served from 1958-60 and during that time, boxed for the Navy.

Charles was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

His wife, the former Carol Jay Mountain, whom he married in 1964, survives at home.

Also surviving are: five daughters, Linda Glynn, Foster, R.I.; Vicki Hainsey, Clearfield, Pa.; Tracie Gosnell, West Middlesex; Debra Hedlund, Warren, Ohio; and Lisa Galdo and her husband Carlo, Coraopolis, Pa.; a son, Kenneth Gosnell, Clearfield; two half-sisters, Judy Lamb, Montana; and Linda Palkington, Ohio; two half-brothers, Dale Gosnell, Greenville; and Mike Gosnell, Warren; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Scott Hainsey.

Service: Memorial service at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronald Harbaugh, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Delaware Township, officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds.

Burial: Cremation in the funeral home crematory.
