Joan Thomas Prothero

Native of England worked, volunteered at Buhl clubs


Private services will be held for Joan Thomas Prothero of 302 Grace St., Sharon. She passed away peacefully at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in her residence after falling at home. She was 89.

Mrs. Prothero was born April 20, 1920, in Newport, England, to Osbourne and Dorothy Insul Thomas.

She and her husband, Ivor S. Prothero, whom she married in 1948, came to the United States in 1957 from England and later became U.S. citizens.

Mrs. Prothero was a desk clerk at the former Julia F. Buhl Girl’s Club in Sharon from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s until the club closed.

She had been a volunteer at the F.H. Buhl Club Nursery School for 10 years.

Surviving are: her husband, at home in Sharon; a daughter, Julie and her husband John Buchman; three granddaughters, Megan and Miranda Buchman; and Alyson and her husband Ryan Thompson; and a great-grandson, Brayden Thompson, all Titusville. Joan also leaves relatives in England.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
