Mary Frances Pearce of 459 Boyd Drive, Sharon, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 8 p.m. Tuesday (5-4-10) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 86.
Mrs. Pearce was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Sharon, a daughter of Peter J. and Mary Kuhner Whalen.
A lifelong area resident, she was a 1942 graduate of Sharon High School.
Mrs. Pearce worked for 11 years as a switchboard operator for the Shenango campus of Pennsylvania State University, Sharon, retiring in 1997. She was also an officer at the former Sharon Stationary and Supply Inc. in downtown Sharon for 24 years.
Mrs. Pearce was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon.
In her early years, she was active in both Girl Scouting and Cub Scouting and was a member and past president of the St. Joseph School Parent Teacher Association.
She was a former member of Sharon Quota Club.
Mary is survived by her husband, John “Jack” A. Pearce, whom she married June 25, 1945.
Also surviving are: her three sons, Jack A. Pearce and his wife Susan, Wayne, Pa.; Michael W. Pearce and his wife Sandra, Dallas; and Thomas H. Pearce, Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren, David Pearce, Mark Pearce; Joshua Pearce and his wife Jen; Solomon Pearce and his wife Erica; Mary Rachael Austin and her husband David; and Elijah Pearce; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Fiona and Sebastian Pearce; and her two sisters, Emelia A. Kennehan and her husband William H., Youngstown; and Phyllis J. Nelson, Sharpsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kathleen W. Linder; and a brother, Robert M. Whalen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Interment: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
