Richard ‘Dick’ B. Eckley

Hempfield business owner enjoyed sports, camping



Richard “Dick” B. Eckley of 339 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, formerly of 108 Hayfield Road, Hempfield Township, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Saturday (2-6-10) in St. Paul’s, West Salem Township. He was 78.

Mr. Eckley was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Earl and Margaret Felton Eckley.

He attended the former Fredonia High School.

In 1952, Mr. Eckley founded Eckley TV & Appliance in Hempfield Township, which he operated until his retirement in 2003.

He was a past member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Greenville.

Dick was an avid golfer and a Pittsburgh sports fan. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, going to his camp in Tionesta, Pa., and to his winter home in Summersville, Fla.

Surviving are: a daughter, Dianne E. Bost and her husband Thomas, Jamestown; two sons, Rick Eckley and his wife Beth; and Matthew T. Eckley and his companion Katie Jordon, all Greenville; a brother, Charles Eckley and his wife Vernell, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Lee and her husband Don, Franklin, N.C.; three grandchildren, Andrew Buyan, Rian Eckley and Cameron Eckley; and a great-grandson, Jackson Richard Eckley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jared Eckley; three brothers, Merle Eckley, Dale Eckley and Robert Eckley; and three sisters, Dorothy Tout, Carol Ross and Harriet Drevicky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Property Committee of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 9 Beil Hill Road, Greenville, PA 16125.

Interment: With committal in Delaware (Township) Cemetery.
