Betty Jane Ross

Farrell native was retired co-owner of Ohio business


WARREN, Ohio — Betty Jane Ross of Cortland, formerly of Sharon and Farrell, passed away Thursday (9-4-08) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren. She was 79.

Mrs. Ross was born July 19, 1929 in Farrell, a daughter of the late Michael and Helen Hornyak Durisko.

She was raised and lived in the Sharon area and was a 1948 graduate of Farrell High School. She moved to the Warren, Ohio, area in 1957.

Betty Jane was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church of the Byzantine Rite, Warren, and was a member of the Ladies Guild, of which she had been a past president.

She had also been past president of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary in Warren. She was very well known for her eggery passion and enjoyed playing the piano, traveling and dancing.

In 1948, Betty Jane met Henry V. Ross at the Chatter Box in Sharon. The two married on July 28, 1951.

Betty Jane and Henry went on to own and operate Trumbull Camera and Hobby Shops in Warren and Howland in 1957, doing so until 1996, at which time they retired.

Betty Jane is survived by: her husband, Henry V. Ross; a daughter, Diane Ratell-Lehman and her husband Ken, Mission Viejo, Calif.; two sons, Timothy Ross and his wife Beth, Howland; and Gregory Ross, Largo, Fla.; her grandchildren, Joshua Ross and his wife Dayna; and Joel, Christopher, and Ashley Ross; and a great-granddaughter, Angelina Ross.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, 1422 Euclid Ave., Suite 239, Cleveland, OH 44115-1901.

Calling hours: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday (9-7-08) in PETER ROSSI & SON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, Ohio, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Service: Funeral Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Monday (9-8-08) in Sts. Peter and Paul Church of the Byzantine Rite, Warren, with the Revs. Robert Karl and the Richard Whetsone officiating. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Burial: St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
