Alma L. ‘Babe’ Poprocky

Former Austintown woman lived in Mercer

Alma L. “Babe” Poprocky of Mercer, formerly of Austintown, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning (4-24-08) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 89.

Mrs. Poprocky was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of Henry and Frances Bucy Miller.

She moved in 1923 to the Youngstown area and graduated from Immaculate Conception School and Youngstown East High School.

During the 1950s, she worked at the Lerner Shops and later at Fisher’s in Austintown.

She was a former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Austintown, and had moved in 1973 to Mercer.

Her husband, Andrew P. Poprocky, whom she married March 6, 1937, died Feb. 26, 2007.

Surviving are four sisters, Grace Warner, Mercer; Sally Cummings and Johanna Welsh, both Youngstown; and Virginia Manion, Masury; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, James J. Welsh, who reared her since her childhood after her father’s death. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Miller; and Jack and James Welsh; and two sisters, Margaret Mary Welsh and Beulah Miller O’Brian.

Service: Funeral services at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Austintown.
