HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — Robert Charles Dahl Jr. of Harker Heights, formerly of Sharon, died Thursday, April 22, 2010, in Harker Heights Hospice House, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer. He was 56.
Mr. Dahl was born Sept. 8, 1953, in Sharon to Robert Charles Dahl Sr. and Helen Whitman Dahl.
He was an alumnus of Sharon High School.
Mr. Dahl was employed at the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon, until the plant closed. He later enlisted in 1982 in the Army, achieving a rank of master sergeant, and worked stateside and in Germany and served his country in Iraq in Operation Desert Storm.
After his retirement from the military in 2002, Robert was a truck driver for various companies.
He was a proud member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, an organization for which soldiers are selected for exemplary achievements.
Among his other pleasures, he enjoyed watching Joel Osteen, televangelist.
Surviving are: his wife, Diane Dahl, at home; his daughter, Megan Dahl Hartstein and her husband William, Meriden, Conn.; his son, Chris Dahl and his wife Robin, Longview, Texas; his brother, James Dahl and his wife Karen, Sharon; and three grandchildren, Collette Dahl, Delany Dahl Hartstein and Caleb Dahl.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rose Marie Davis.
Celebration of life services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, with Chaplain John Hubbs officiating.
