Brookfield

• Firefighters said a kitchen fire caused $50,000 damage Wednesday to the home of James Gravink, 7158 Fairview Drive, Yankee Lake.

The fire was called in at 10:18 p.m. after a man who was staying there woke up to the sound of crackling and smelled smoke, firefighters said.

The blaze gutted the kitchen and extended into the walls to the second floor, firefighters said. The rest of the home sustained smoke and heat damage.

A toaster or a coffee pot are believed to have started the fire, firefighters said. The home is insured.

Hartford volunteer firefighters assisted.

Hermitage

• A Sharpsville woman was injured when the car she was riding in hit a culvert and rolled over at 2:52 a.m. Thursday on Longview Road near Brian Lane, police said.

Brandi Holtz, 29, of 1720 Hall Ave., was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, police said. A message left with a hospital spokeswoman was not returned.

Ms. Holtz was in a car driven by Anthony Massotto, 29, of 98 Riddle St., Wheatland, which was eastbound when Massotto swerved to miss a deer, police said. The car went off the right side of the road and hit the culvert, police said.

• Christina L. Karsnak, 39, of 312 Elm Ave., Sharon, has been charged with theft for stealing a total of $240 from her cash drawer June 4, 16, 18, 20 and 23 from Walmart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, where she used to work, police said.

SW Mercer County Regional

• Thomas A. Yakemovic, 21, of 49 Walnut St., West Middlesex, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia for having the drug in a pocket and a glass pipe in the bed of a pickup at 9:54 p.m. June 23 on the basketball court of West Middlesex High School, 3591 Sharon Road, police said.

Hempfield Township

ä William Schrader Jr., 42, Greenville; at 1:40 a.m. Saturday on South Mercer Street near Fredonia Road.

Hermitage

ä Amanda Biblis, 18, of 3882 Windsor Court, Hermitage; at 12:01 a.m. Monday on Longview Road after she lost control and her car went off the road and rolled twice. She and a passenger, Alexis Sich, 18, of 765 Sugar Hollow Road, Hermitage, were treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. Ms. Biblis also was charged with underage drinking and careless driving. Ms. Sich was cited for underage drinking.

ä Robert Buckley, 60, of 227 Ridge Ave., Sharpsville; at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of North Hermitage Road; also charged with a lane violation.

Neshannock Township Lawrence County

ä Devon West, 23, of 144 Wheeler Road, Worth Township; at 8:49 a.m. June 20 in Shenley Square.

Sharon

ä Byron Bradley, 22, of 727 Sherman Ave., Sharon; at 1:30 a.m. Thursday after an accident in the 200 block of South Oakland Avenue; also cited for driving on the right side of the road, drivers required to be licensed and leaving the scene of an accident.
