A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Jodie Ann Moroco of 2429 Pebble Creek Court, Hermitage. She passed away unexpectedly but peacefully Wednesday morning (7-1-09) in her home. She was 47.
Miss Moroco was born March 30, 1962, in Greenville to Judith Ann Dean and William Harold Geist.
She graduated from Notre Dame Elementary School and was a member of Kennedy Christian High School’s graduating class of 1980, both Hermitage. She matriculated to Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in American history. She also earned a postgraduate academic master’s degree of education from Youngstown State University.
She was certified as a professional mental health counselor in Pennsylvania and had been employed in recent years by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Catholic Charities Counseling and Adoption Services, Butler Community College and Sharon Regional Health System’s Home Health and Hospice.
Jodie was feisty, funny and friendly. She was a special friend to people in need and all animals. Her therapy dog, Theo, was her special companion and actually saved her life at one time.
She finally accomplished one of her goals in life, which was to own a horse, Jerry. Jerry was a rescue horse from American Saddlebred Rescue Group. In addition she had several cats in her lifetime, including her latest friend, Ernie, which she adopted from Shenango Valley Animal Shelter.
She will be sadly missed by all her friends and family and, certainly by her pets.
She is survived by: her mother, Judith A. Moroco, at home; her sister, Jacqueline Moroco Maloney and her husband Jack, Delray Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Philip A. Moroco II and his wife Julie, Sharon; and Richard F. Moroco and his wife Laurie, West Middlesex; her grandmother, Ann Moroco, Hermitage; and her nieces and nephews, Philip III, Maxwell, Isabelle, Ethan, Kendrick, Brennan and Alyssa Moroco; and Jack Maloney III and Kate Maloney.
She also leaves her uncles and aunts, Robert and Bonnie Dean, Okatie, S.C.; Renee and John Bost, Greenville; John and Nancy Moroco, West Middlesex; Michael and Connie Moroco, Sharon; James Gessler, Greenville; Gwen and Ken Bradley, Titusville, Fla.; and many cousins. Jodie was preceded in death by her fathers, William Geist and Philip Moroco Sr.; her grandparents, Martha and John Dean; Kathryn and Harold Geist; and John Moroco; and her aunt, Annette Gessler.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Catholic Charities and Adoptive Services, 995 Linden St., Sharon, PA 16146; Club Pet, 20 Schaller Road, Transfer, PA 16154; or the American Saddlebred Rescue No. 4, Westview Drive, Blairstown, NJ 07825.
