Glenn E. ‘Buck’ Yates

Cooper Energy retiree of Sandy Lake was Mason

Glenn E. “Buck” Yates of 34 Paxton Road, Sandy Lake, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a short illness. He was 87.

Born in Stoneboro on Feb. 7, 1922, Mr. Yates was a son of James B. and Ruth E. Fisher Yates.

He was a 1941 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School.

Glenn retired as a machinist from Cooper Energy Service of Grove City in 1983 after 42 years of service.

He was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church. Glenn was a 51-year member and past master of Free and Accepted Masons Lake Lodge Chapter 434 of Sandy Lake and belonged to Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory.

He loved to walk, during which time he would stop and visit friends and neighbors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for trout.

In his later years, Glenn especially enjoyed visiting with his friends at McQuiston Center by the Park, Sandy Lake.

A Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

His wife, the former Frances Isobel Collins, whom he married July 27, 1946, preceded him in death Oct. 9, 1999.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jerry R. (Pat) Ditzenberger, Sandy Lake; a son, James G. Yates and his wife Pam, Clarington, Pa.; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Glenn was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Eugene Yates; a great-grandson, Levi Yates; and a sister, Mildred E. Rosenberg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview United Methodist Church, Box 177; or McQuiston Center, Box 273, both Sandy Lake, PA 16145.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday (7-5-09) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (7-6-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. James G. Young, pastor of Methodists United in Faith, officiating.

Interment: Zion Cemetery, Worth Township.
