Ballerinas from Walnut Lodge and Ballet Theater Shenango Valley rehearse for performances of “The Nutcracker 1969” Saturday and Sunday and Dec. 19 and 20 at Penn State Shenango’s auditorium in downtown Sharon. Re-imagined from the ground up, the original production includes local musicians, a giant mouse trap and characters like Richard Nixon, a biker named Pumpkin and, of course, Clara, Drosselmeyer and the Rat King. In the second act, the audience will travel to the moon, where Foxy Sugar Plum reigns over the Land of Eternal Harmony and Love for a series of groovy dances. Warp back in time to a moment when the teenage dream of a world based on peace not power didn't seem beyond reach. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Seating is limited due to the interactive nature of the performance and includes hors d‘oeuvres and beverages. For tickets call the Walnut Lodge at 724-346-4746.
