Fundraisers

• Fredonia American Legion Auxiliary is having a Christmas auction beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in the social hall.

Name-brand toys, seasonal products, household and gift ideas will be auctioned. All merchandise is new.

Auctioneers Bob Taft and Tom Barnes have donated their time. Donations of saleable items are being accepted.

• A spaghetti dinner will run 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Shenango Valley Masonic Lodge 810, South Neshannock Road at East State Street, Hermitage.

Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, beverage and dessert.

Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children younger than age 12.

• St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 65 S. Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage, is taking orders for: pogacha, $3.50; nut rolls, $10; apple strudel, $7; sugar doughnuts, $7 a dozen or $3.50 for a half dozen.

Orders are to be picked up at noon Nov. 22 at the church.

• The Kaine Kulka benefit will be 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars, 115 Edgewood Drive. A dinner buffet of roast chicken cooked on spits, side dishes and beverages will be available from 2 to 6 p.m.; the giant Chinese auction is from 2 to 6 p.m.; and the 50/50 raffle will be drawn at 6.

The Hern Brothers Band will provide entertainment from 3 to 6.

Cost is $12 for adults; $6 for children ages 4 to 12; and free for children younger than age 4.

• Hermitage Kiwanis Club is holding these December fundraisers: dining cards for area restaurants with many “free” meals are $25 and large fruit baskets or 2 pounds of deluxe mixed nut tins for $20 each.

Meetings

• Packard Electric and Delphi Packard Local 717 Retirees meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Local 717’s Union Hall in Warren (Ohio) Commerce Park, 2950 Sferra Ave.

Members attending are to take a labeled covered dish and table service.

Canned goods, toiletries and nonperishables will be collected for the Warren Family Rescue Mission.

This meeting is the last chance to sign up and pay for the Christmas party.

• College Club of Sharon will hold a continental breakfast meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

Guest speaker Jocelyn Beatty, wildlife artist, will give a demonstration and complete a painting.

Membership is open to female college graduates.

Holiday events

• The community is invited to join Flossi Holloway for her annual free Thanksgiving dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 24 at New Murray Bell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7579, 314 Idaho St., Farrell.

Mrs. Holloway has been putting on the feast for more than 30 years.

• An annual community Thanksgiving dinner will be held at noon Nov. 26 in the social room of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer.

Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls and beverage will be provided. Those attending are asked to take a salad, vegetable or dessert if they are able.

Any person or family who might be spending Thanksgiving alone is welcome to enjoy fellowship with others and make it a special day.

Special event

• Hempfield IPTO desperately needs help to hold its free clothing swap today and Saturday at Hempfield Elementary School. Anyone able to lend a hand in sorting the clothing can do so from 2:30 to 11 p.m. today or after 1 p.m. Saturday to help place clothing into bags to be redistributed to Thiel’s Clothing Drive.

Those interested can see a family movie and take away a bag of clothing from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today. Clothing will also be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.



Support groups

• Anorexia Nervosa & Bulimia Self-Help Group meets from 5:30 to 6:45 Thursdays in the Founders room of Notre Dame Church, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage.

• Circle of Support, a support group for parents and families of children with kidney disease, meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at Panera Bread in Hermitage.
