Veterans Day Events

Annual parade held in Farrell

SHENANGO VALLEY – The Veterans Day parade today in Farrell will form on Indiana Avenue between Idaho Street and Roemer Boulevard and will move promptly at 6:30 p.m., proceeding south on Indiana to Roemer and west on Roemer to Veterans Square behind the city building.

City and police officials are asking residents not to park along the parade route between 6 and 8 p.m.

Area schools honor veterans

• Monsignor Geno J. Monti School will honor veterans at a special program at 11 a.m. today at the school in Farrell.

• Lakeview Middle School invites the public to commemorate Veterans Day from 8:30 to 10 a.m. today.

• Notre Dame School, Hermitage, will honor veterans at a prayer service at 8:15 a.m. today.

• Sharpsville Elementary School, 100 Hittle Drive, welcomes all veterans in the school district to an assembly at 10 a.m. today. Info: 724-962-8300.

• Greenville High School invites all area veterans to an assembly at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Wreath tossing marks Armistice

SHARON – Sharon Veterans of Foreign War Post 1338 holds its annual wreath tossing into the Shenango River at 11 a.m. today to mark the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.

The ceremony will be held on the State Street Bridge in downtown Sharon. The street will be closed to motor vehicle traffic for the ceremony.
