• Penn State Shenango THON, a benefit for kids with cancer, is set for Dec. 5. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m. beginning at the Casino in Buhl Farm, Hermitage.Entry fees are: Pre-registered individual, $15; pre-registered family (up to four), $40; day-of-the-race individual, $20; and day-of-the-race family, $50. All checks should be made payable to Penn State University. Please place THON in the memo section. Pre-registration deadline is Dec. 4. Entry fee includes Miles of Smiles Timing Service T-shirt, coffee, hot chocolate and refreshments after the race. • A dinner, Chinese auction and raffle to benefit Joshua’s Haven City Mission, runs 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Billy’s Black & Gold, Sharon. • Women’s Ministries serves a pork chop dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at Shepherd of the Valley Church, 2717 Valley View Road, South Pymatuning Township. • The fifth annual missions auction at Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church, 3096 Sandy Lake-Grove City Road, is scheduled for Nov. 14. Doors and concessions open at 5 p.m. and auction begins at 6 p.m. Donated items include a one-hour plane ride for two including a stop for dinner, Thompson Center 50 cal cap and ball muzzleloader, a signed Hines Ward Steelers poster, furniture, a handmade quilt, gift certificates from area businesses and more. Baby-sitting available. Concessions include homemade pies, baked goods, sandwiches and more. All proceeds benefit short-term mission trips sponsored by the church.
