Kids stuff

• The Thiel College Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society is hosting its annual “Kids & Chemistry” program to spark interest in chemistry in children in grades 4-6 from local elementary schools from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Academic Center, room 100, at Thiel College, 75 College Ave., Greenville.

There will be exciting demonstrations and fun hands-on activities in which children can participate, including making slime and silly putty, chemistry games and building pop rockets.

The event is free.

• Mercer County Family Center presents a “Little Learners” Book Club for parents and children ages 1 and 2 in the Greenville, Reynolds, Commodore Perry and Jamestown school districts. This book club will focus on the importance of early literacy skills and will include a craft, activities, and story time. This four-session book club will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 10, Jan. 12, March 9 and May 11 at Greenville Public Library.

Every family will receive a free book at each session.

Seminar

• The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7465 is holding a seminar on Social Security from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 1470 Brent Road, Volant.

A speaker from the Social Security Administration will present information, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Directions: From Grove City, just past the Grove City Outlet Mall, turn left onto Veterans Road. Follow Veterans Road approximately 1è miles. Veterans Road dead ends in front of the Post.

Special events

• Spare change could change a life! “Round Up” your purchases at JCPenney in the Shenango Valley Mall from Dec. 4 through 13 and the JCPenney Afterschool Fund will donate the difference to the Hermitage YMCA Afterschool Program to provide programs.

For all of our programs, please remember volunteers and sponsors are always needed. Come to the YMCA for a tour and check out the fun fall back-to-school programs we are offering.

• West Hill Ministries Senior Citizens Thanksgiving luncheon begins at noon Nov. 11 at First Baptist Church, 301 W. State St., Sharon.

Following the luncheon there will be a musical program with the Rev. Burl Jernigan of Calvary Baptist Church, Youngstown.

Fundraisers

• Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, 1330 Kimberly Road, Sharon, holds the following events:

Throughout the month of November there will be a collection of non-perishable food items to benefit our local community food bank. Food donations will be accepted daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Nov. 30. All donations will be given to The Shenango Valley Food Bank.

A Harvest Celebration is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the grand ballroom. There will be free giveaways, entertainment, Chinese auction and refreshments. The evening is sponsored by The VNA Alliance, Southern Care Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care and Visiting Physicians Association.

Remember our Veterans begins at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11. Join us as we celebrate and remember U.S. military veterans. Attorney William McConnell, a local lawyer and a Marine who served during Desert Storm, will be the guest speaker. Immediately following the presentation, homemade pie will be served.

Thanksgiving luncheon begins at noon Nov. 24 for family and friends for a harvest-filled lunch. Please remember to bring one non-perishable food item to be donated as a part of our annual food drive.

• Volant Volunteer Fire Company holds a buckwheat pancake and sausage day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The all-you-can-eat meal is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for ages 6 to 12, and free for ages 5 and younger. Regular pancakes will also be served.

• A spaghetti dinner benefit for Nick Albanese is Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 148 Shenango St., Sharpsville.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Son’s of Italy, 299 Vine Ave., Sharon, or at the door.

Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for youth.



Meetings

• Midwestern Local Task Force-Right to Education meets from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 12 in conference room A of the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, Grove City.

Meetings are open to all parents with children with disabilities.

• The G.F.W.C. Grove City Woman’s Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at East Main Presbyterian Church.

Speaker will be Ed Lewis from Grove City College. He does all their lovely floral arrangements and will be demonstrating ideas for Thanksgiving.

• Wimodausis will meet at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Ballroom of Scottish Rite Cathedral, New Castle, for a delightful musical program.

Arts & crafts

• The Jameson Junior Guild’s annual bazaar is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Jameson Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington Road, New Castle.

There will be all kinds of homemade treasures at a reasonable price for the holiday season.

Tickets are now on sale in the hospital lobby for the Chinese auction.
