Victoria Phillips Latzoo will be the speaker for the 36th annual awards luncheon of the Mercer County Frontiers Club. The event will begin at noon April 3 at The Raddison Hotel of Sharon, Shenango Township.
Mrs. Latzoo is the assistant principal of Farrell High School. She has been employed by the Farrell Area School District for 18 years. She was a general science and biology teacher initially, and later the dean of students. She has been the life coach/counselor at the Youngstown Early Intervention Summer Camp held at Thiel College for more than 10 years.
Mrs. Latzoo is a Farrell High School graduate and is the daughter of Robert and Masie Phillips. She received a bachelor’s from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s from Youngstown State University. She is pursuing her doctorate degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
The Frontiers Club is a community service organization with its primary focus being that of African-American youths.
The organization will present the Community Service Award to the “Citizen Fore Change” for the valiant undertaking dedicated to the transformation of the distressed city of Farrell into a thriving community once more.
Scholar recognition awards will be presented to African-American graduates of high schools in Mercer County and Brookfield who completed an academic program above high school, primarily in 2009.
Five scholarships will be presented to African-American graduating seniors of area high schools.
