• Thiel College’s international students organization, “Thiel World Organization,” presents a Culture Show at 8 tonight in the college’s Students Center Lutheran Heritage Room.
Meetings
• Gold Wing Road Rider Association is an international motorcycle organization that promotes safe riding. The local Chapter M will meet Saturday at Yankee Kitchen, 6635 Market St., Boardman, with supper at 5:30 p.m. and regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Plans for the annual charity dinner in April and for the annual garage sale in May will be discussed, as well as the ride schedule. The chapter welcomes all bikers and their co-riders to attend meetings and become members of GWRRA. • Sharpsville High School class of 1959 meets for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Perkins Restaurant, Hermitage.
• Brookfield Senior Group “Over the Hill Gang” meets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at Brookfield firehall, state Route 7. Lunch will be available for $3 and will be followed by prize bingo and cards. Daniel Briceland of Briceland Funeral Home will discuss life insurance as it applies to Medicaid. All seniors are welcome.
• New Vernon Grange meets at 7 p.m. today. There will be a round, square and polka dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday. The public is welcome. The next grange meeting is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 3 if the weather permits. Square dances will also be held Feb. 6 and 20, weather permitting.
Fundraisers
• A chicken pie supper, to benefit Calvary UMC Missions and Good Shepherd Center, runs 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Calvary United Methodist Church, corner of Mercer and Harrison streets in Greenville. Cost is $7 for adults; $3.50 for children ages 6 to 12; and children younger than age 5 are free.
• St. Patrick Church, Hubbard, will hold a spaghetti dinner from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 31 in the church hall. Cost is $6 for adults; $4 for children ages 6 to 12; and children ages 5 and younger are free. Takeouts available. All proceeds will help fund the 2010 Women’s Renewal Weekend held Feb. 27-28 and the Men’s Renewal Weekend March 13-14. Any men or women wishing to attend the Renewal weekends may inquire about addition information or sign up for the appropriate weekend at the spaghetti dinner. There is absolutely no cost to anyone attending the weekends.
• Case Avenue PTO holds a soup fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Sharon Middle High School. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and younger. Takeouts available.
• Brookfield Fallen Firefighters Foundation will sponsor its Fourth Annual Wild Game dinner Feb. 20 at Yankee Lake Ballroom. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Corporate table for groups of 10 are available, which includes separate raffles, waitress for drinks and door prizes. Tickets, call Brookfield Fire Department, 330-448-1000, option 4.
Kids stuff
• The Mercer County Family Center presents its annual Book Buddies Book Club the week of Feb. 8 at Commodore Perry, Greenville, Jamestown and Reynolds, for children ages 3 to 5 and their parents in any of these school districts. Participants will explore the benefits of early literacy through books, songs, activities and crafts.
This book club is the second of four that will be held throughout the year. Pre-registration, call 724-588-2404 by Jan. 29. Registration is limited.
