Thiel College announces homecoming plans

GREENVILLE — Thiel College in Greenville, will celebrate Homecoming 2009 from Oct. 2 to 4.

The weekend includes a host of alumni-centric events, including reunions, a golf scramble, awards ceremonies, a bonfire and pig roast, and a homecoming dance.

Fireworks will be on display over Stoeber Field at 9 p.m. on Oct. 2 and the public can get in on the homecoming fun during the annual parade at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3. The parade starts in Riverside Park, proceeds along Alan Avenue, North Race and Main Strees, College and Ridgeway avenues.

Westminster event helps students ‘Get Real!’

NEW WIILMINGTON — The chief executive officer of Grove City Medical Center in Pine Township will present a “Get Real!” program from 12:40 to 1:50 p.m. Oct. 1 in McKelvey Campus Center’s Witherspoon Lakeview Room on the campus of Westminster College in New Wilmington.

Robert Jackson, a Westminster board of trustees member, will present “BA to CEO: Things I’ve Learned along the Way.” He was once the youngest chief executive of a hospital in America. Jackson will share how life lessons and professional experiences helped pave his way to success.

Sponsored by the student affairs office, the series acquaints students with life after college. It gives advice on financial planning; banking; medical care; consumer and personal legal matters; apartment, auto, and house hunting; getting the most out of leisure activities; and preparing for lifelong relationships.

“Investing for the Good Life” will be presented Nov. 5; and “Benefits Packages,” Nov. 29.

Jennings Center sets Environmental Scout Day

SLIPPERY ROCK — All 7 through 11 year old scouts can take part in Environmental Scout Day from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 7 in Jennings Environmental Education Center, near Slippery Rock.

Two programs, “Predator and Prey” and “Meet a Tree,” will be offered each session. Suggested donation is $1 for each child. Boy Scout den and Girl Scout troop leaders must register their scouts for one of the two sessions by Oct. 7.

Shenango Valley YMCA taking class registrations

HERMITAGE — Shenango Valley YMCA, 925 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, is taking registrations for these classes:

• Fall basketball league — Eight-week instructional league for pre-kindergarten through age 13 boys and girls. Practices begin the 1st week of October.

• YMCA Sea Lion Swim Team — For 5- through 18-year-old boys and girls from competitive swimmers to novice beginners.

• YMCA Art Class — 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays, for six weeks, for first- through sixth-graders. Date of first class to be announced.

• YMCA Wacky Science Classes — 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, with date of first class will be announced, for first- through sixth-graders.

• YMCA Karate — For all ages.

• Tiny Tots — Tuesdays 11:15 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, for 3- and 4-year-olds.
