SPECIAL EVENTS

• A chili cookoff is set for 3 p.m. Sept. 27 at The Alabran Farm, 223 Osgood Kennard Road, north of Greenville. Gates open at 2 p.m. Take your favorite chili recipe to enter as hottest, most original or best tasting. There also will be a Chinese auction. Enter to win door prizes. FUNDRAISERS

Autumn in the Park benefit for the Jason Pyle Memorial Fund will be 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Stoneboro Park. In the event of rain, it will be in the Stoneboro Fire Hall. Ron Knapp and Chuck Thorpe will provide music. There also will be pony cart rides, children’s games and a Chinese auction. Adult lunch will be $6 for pulled pork sandwiches, apple dumpling and a drink; children, $3 for a hot dog, chips, apple dumpling and a drink. Advanced tickets can be purchased in Mercer County State Bank’s Stoneboro branch on Lake Street.

Stoneboro Garden and Preservation Society and Jason Pyle Memorial Fund are sponsors.

• The Humane Society of Mercer County hosts “Paw” for a cause -- a back-to-the-oldies fundraiser Oct. 3 at Hickory Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6166. Full buffet at 6 p.m. and entertainment 8 p.m. to midnight. Back by popular demand: Pittsburgh’s “William Dell and Wee Jams” with the Doo Wop Band. Tickets are $30 per person. Community Christian Playhouse presents “It’s Your Choice” at 6 p.m. Saturday at Chavers Center, 211 Federal St., Farrell. Cost is $10. Proceeds benefit Joshua’s Haven City Mission.

SPECIAL EVENT

Fall Farm Days at Golden Run Clydesdales, 4816 Lamor Road, Hermitage, runs noon to dusk Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 26 through Nov. 1. Enjoy horsedrawn hayrides drawn by Clydesdales through the fields, good food by the camp fire and children can plan in the cornmaze. There are pony rides. Cost is $5 per person.
