• Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department will host an open house and youth fire prevention training from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters and local ambulance crews will demonstrate how to properly remove a victim from a wrecked vehicle using hand and power tools. Splash tanks for the kids, hands-on demonstration of fire hoses and other firefighting tools will be part of the department’s day to say thank you to the community for its support.
• Pieceful Pursuits Quilt Guild in Clark is sponsoring a lecture and trunk show on “The Scrap Users System” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
The lecture will go through Bonnie Hunter’s method of scrap quilting.
Vendors, quilt raffle, prizes and refreshments are included in the $10 admission price.
Fundraisers
• Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church, 950 Maple Drive, Hermitage, will bake fresh pumpkin rolls every Wednesday starting next week. They can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost: $10 each.

• Fredonia Presbyterian Church, 110 Water St., is having a stuffed pork chop or stuffed chicken breast dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Cost: $8 for adults; $4, children.

• A used book sale is set for 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Sept. 25 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 in Greenville Area Public Library, 330 Main St.
A bag sale is set for Sept. 25. Fill a brown bag or your own tote for $4 with any items from the sale. Books, DVDs, VHSs and CDs will be available.
• A Chinese auction will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 in Grove City Masonic Hall, 1340 W. Main St..
The $3 admission includes 25 auction tickets and refreshments. There also will be a special cash raffle for $1. Raffle drawing will be 3 p.m.
The event will benefit programs of the Children’s Aid Society of Mercer County.

• “It’s Your Choice” will be staged at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 in Chaver’s Community Center, 211 Federal St., Farrell.
The play, first performed in 1991 by Community Christian Playhouse, entails scenes depicting life-changing situations which may or may not produce the reward of entering “Heaven’s Gates,” the title of the original adaptation. Players from area churches will comprise the cast of about 75. Proceeds benefit Joshua’s Haven City Mission in Sharon.

Meetings
• Packard Electric and Delphi Packard Local 717 Retirees will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Local 717’s Union Hall in Warren Commerce Park, 2950 Sferra.
Members are asked to take a labeled covered dish and table service.
Mike Rubicz from Alliance for Senior Action of Northeast Ohio will speak on topics affecting seniors and retirees.
Payment is needed this month from those planning to go on the trip to Pittsburgh.
• Brookfield’s “Over the Hill Gang” will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at the township firehall on state Route 7.
Dell’s County Pick-Ups will entertain with old-time country music and a special guest.
Lunch will be served for a $3 donation. Prize bingo and cards will follow. All seniors welcome.

• “Understanding Memory Loss” informational seminar is set for 2 p.m. Monday in White-Cliff Nursing Home, 110 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township.

• UPMC Horizon has added a free community prostate screenings.
Dr. Hernan Alvarado, urologist, will offer free prostate screenings from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 in the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
The other two screenings will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Womancare Center with Dr. Paul Lange and Sept. 26 in the Outpatient Center in UPMC Horizon in Greenville with Dr. Walter Beh.
Screenings includes physical examinations and Prostate Specific Antigen blood tests.
To qualify for a free screening, men must meet at least two of these criteria: age 50 or older, African-American, a family history of prostate cancer, and no prostate exam within the last year.
