SHARPSVILLE — The Historical Society of Sharpsville will be host a meet-n-greet in conjunction with The Sacred Garden, 106 N. Mercer Ave., from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday to connect with current members and invite new ones.
Refreshments will be provided. Sharpsville Historical Society is accepting new memberships, available for $10 a year.
The building that houses The Sacred Garden was built in 1871 by Geddes and Pierce Co., and has been host to many different businesses in the past 140 years, including the Sharpsville Opera House. Located on the third floor above The Sacred Garden and with years of restoration, the opera house is in operation again. With seating for 250 people, both operas in 2009 were sold out. The historical society will host more operas and concerts this year.
The front display windows and entrance have held years of changing displays without having been too modernized. Inside, the high ceilings still reflect the beauty of the original pressed tiles.
Though some modern touches have been added, the history and energy are still well alive within this building that used to display the much-remembered Bloch Brothers men’s clothing store.
