Mercer Chamber hosts Winterfrost Art Show

MERCER — The Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce presents Mercer’s Winterfrost Art Show, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Mercer High School. Come out and enjoy this cultural event.

Admission and parking are free.

The show will feature talented artists, photographers, potters and jewelry makers from the area, including Martha Dingel Augustine, Ben Bires, Chandler Beatty, Missy Friedl-Shipley, Martin Frolick, Nicole Renee, Lillian Reynolds Reeher and Harold Willis who will be displaying and selling their works.

The categories of art in the show will include watercolors, oils, acrylics, ink and pottery. There will also be a display of Faberge eggs created by June Lewis.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view art displayed by students from Greenville, Hermitage, Keystone Charter, Lakeview, Mercer and Sharpsville High Schools. The young artists’ work will be judged and prizes awarded.

A food court will be available.

    Malinda Koncar lost her father, Ray Witkowski, to ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, on March 6. The 30-year-old woman from West Middlesex then applied for the Ms. Pennsylvania America 2013 title as part of her mission to raise awareness for the disease. And she won.

  • River Watchers pick up big environmental award

    When the Shenango River near Pymatuning State Park was clogged with forest debris, the Shenango River Watchers harnessed some unique horsepower to clear the river and open it to recreation. Their novel approach to conservation will be honored with a 2013 Western Pennsylvania Environmental Award, that has been announced by Dominion and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.

    An independent filmmaker and composer with local roots, Scott Nelson, hopes to bring northwest Pennsylvania’s historic beauty and rich heritage to the silver screen with his latest work in progress, “A Simple Life,” a locally inspired post-Victorian drama he believes will touch the hearts of many.
