FUNDRAISERS
• Friends of Mercer Area Library, 143 N. Pitt St., holds a Scholastic Book Fair during regular library hours through Friday. The “Buy One, Get One Free” event offers a variety of book and gift items for children. Proceeds benefit the library. Info: 724-662-4233.
• Volant Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a roast beef dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. June 25. Dinner includes: potato, vegetable, salad, homemade bread, dessert and beverages. Donation: adults, $8; 12 and younger, $4. Proceeds benefit the fire department. Takeouts available. Info: 724-522-2673.
• The Ladies Auxiliary of the Slovak Home are collecting good used items for a rummage sale to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11 and 1 to 4 p.m. July 12. Proceeds will go to Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County and for children’s activities at the club. The ladies are looking for new members. There are no dues and meetings are the first and third Thursdays of the month.
• Hartford Fire Association and Burghill Vernon Fire Department will hold a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 21 at the old Hartford Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, Hartford Five Points Road. Cost is $6 for adults; $5 for seniors; $4 for kids ages 5 to 12; and free for children younger than 5. Breakfast includes pancakes, French toast, eggs and sausage, sausage gravy over biscuits, milk, orange juice coffee and tea. Takeouts available.
KIDS STUFF
• Safe Kids of Mercer County Bicycle Rodeo will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. TuesdayJune 16 at Brandy Springs Park, Mercer. The bicycle rodeo is designed to engage and entertain children while demonstrating bike safety inspections, a safety skills course, spectator area, helmet fitting, lessons, games and safety information. All ages are welcome. Children must take their bicycles and be accompanied be an adult. Participants will receive a free bicycle helmet. Rain date is June 23. SPECIAL EVENTS
• Celebrate Sharpsville’s 135th birthday and Sharpsville Area Historical Society’s annual ice cream social and summer supper from 4 to 7 p.m. June 28 at Mahaney Park, Walnut and Shenango streets. Ice cream social and supper is $6 for adults or $3 for children younger than age 10. A hot dog plate is $1.50. Musical entertainment features excerpts from Mercer County Senior Follies and the upcoming opera “Don Pasquale.” Opera tickets will be available at the event. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Sharpsville Area Historical Society Building, Chloe Pierce Community Chapel, 110 N. Mercer Ave.
• A representative from the Governors Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Hickory Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6166, 5550 E. State St., Hermitage. Veterans seeking assistance are encouraged to contact the representative at this time. Veterans are asked to take a copy of their DD 214.
