• The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers with the David Leonhardt Jazz Group; 8 p.m. March 7. Internationally acclaimed tap dancer Shelley Oliver leads this high-caliber ensemble of dynamic female dancers noted for their lighting speed footwork and rapid fire taps to the music of jazz master David Leonhardt. • Hina Matsuri (Japanese Girls Day Celebration), 11 a.m. to noon. March 7: This is a free program for girls ages 4-10. They will learn about this Japanese festival that focuses on health, happiness and a good marriage for their daughters. Children will play games, hear stories about the festival, learn Japanese phrases and make an origami doll craft. • “Anybody Out There?” at Butler Little Theater, 1 Howard St., March 13-15; 17-21: Poor Oliver Pankey is a born loser; his landlady charges him when someone else breaks his window; his fiancée leaves him for a married man; his boss at the bank cuts his pay when he asks for a raise; and a thief takes everything he has - including his only suit. And, as the last straw, when he visits a doctor to check on the results of a blood test the files get switched, and he is told that he’ll be dead within six months. Fed up, and reconciled to his fate, Oliver turns into a raging lion, performing feats of dazzling bravery. The action spins zanily on, deftly finding its way to a happy - and hilarious - conclusion. Old school
Generations of students learned to read and write in the Hutchinson School, a one-room schoolhouse on Mitchell Road in Shenango Township. Today, historians hope those students’ descendants step forward to furnish and refurbish the small, red brick school to its former glory.
