Fundraisers

• Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, 75 Mercer Ave., Wheatland, holds an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 4 to 12 and children younger than age 3 are free.

The breakfast is sponsored by the Trustees.

• A spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction to benefit Charlie Hoffman will be noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mercer Fire Department.

Charlie was the victim of an accidental shooting and is in a rehab unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital. The shooting left Charlie with spinal cord injuries and is paralyzed from the chest down.

Tickets for Chinese auction on sale all day. Auction begins at 5 p.m.

• Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department holds a braised steak dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. March 7 at Jefferson Township Building, 7407 Lamor Road.

Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than age 12. Takeouts available.

• Farrell Women’s Service Club card and bingo party is set for 1 p.m. March 15 at John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage.

Cost is $5. Tickets are limited and can be obtained from any club member or by calling Paula Chieffo, 724-981-1193. All profits go towards scholarship funds.

• Volant Volunteer Fire Company holds an all-you-can-eat buckwheat-pancake and sausage day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 7. Regular pancakes will be served.

Cost is $6 for adults; $5 seniors; $3 children age 6 to 12; and children younger than age 5 is free.

• St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 65 S. Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage, will be selling Pogacha and doughnuts March 8. Orders are to be picked up between noon and 2 p.m.

Cost is $3.50 each for Pogacha; and $7 for a dozen doughnuts and $3.50 for è dozen.

• Farrell High School class of 1947 meets at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Perkins Restaurant, 2945 E. State St., Hermitage.

• Farrell High School class of 1951 meets for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at The Cookery, 1000 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

All classmates and guests are welcome.



Special events

• UPMC Horizon Greenville Auxiliary will hold its annual luncheon and membership drive at 11 a.m. March 7 in Thiel College’s Lutheran Heritage Room.

The luncheon, which serves as the auxiliary’s annual meeting, is a time when members gather to review the previous year’s activities and to plan for the upcoming year. New members are welcome to attend. The event will include a light lunch, a fashion show, and a vendor expo.

The auxiliary also will elect officers for 2009. Nominees include Sue Riley, president; Marcy Pickering, vice president; Becky Riley, treasurer; and Katie Kraeling, secretary.

• Grove City Medical Center, in partnership with Vantage Health and Health Care Solutions is sponsoring an informational open house for those with sleep apnea from 1:30 to 4 p.m. March 4 in conference room D of Grove City Medical Center.

Bus trip

• The Penn Power Retirees are planning a two day trip to Seneca Niagara Casino on May 12-13. The trip includes a one night stay at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza and a casino bonus of $50 per person.

There are also a few seats left for the March 11th trip to Seneca Allegany Casino. The cost is $30 with a $25 casino bonus.

Classes

• Fredonia Presbyterian Church, Water St., will host a CPR course from 7 to 9:30 p.m. this Sunday and March 8, 10 and 17, depending on demand.

• The Mercer County Community Education Council will present class on the following subjects during the months of March, April, May and June:

Adobe Photoshop, Watercolor Painting, Supervisory Skills, Food Safety Certification, Microsoft Office 2007, QuickBooks, Seniors for Safe Driving, Oil Painting and Medical Billing and Coding.
