Meetings
• Farrell High School class of 1959 holds a 50th reunion committee meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Italian Home in Farrell.
All classmates are welcome.
• The weekly meeting of Mercer County for Obama gathers at 7 p.m. this evening at Tully’s in downtown Sharon.
Jeff Greenburg from Mercer County Board of Elections will conduct a demonstration of voting machines. Followiing will be a question and answer period about how to cast electronic votes.
New members are welcome.
• The annual meeting of the Delaware Cemetery Association will be 7 p.m. Monday at Delaware Civic League Building, 53 Oniontown Road, Greenville.
Three directors are to be elected at this meeting.
• Stony Point Homemakers meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Route 58, Greenville.
After the meeting there will be a tureen lunch.
In the afternoon, the group will work on making fabric bags for the Good Shepherd Center. Please bring sewing supplies, fabric, and non-food product to be donated to the Salvation Army.

• Reynolds High School class of 1961 meets for breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday instead of Oct. 18 at the Italian Home Club, South Race Street, Greenville. Please note the change in date.
• Sharpsville High School class of 1967 holds its monthly get-together at 6 p.m. Sunday at Muscarella’s Cafe Italia, 500 Main St., Sharpsville.
• Packard Electric and Delphi Packard Local 717 Retirees will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Local 717’s Union Hall located in Warren Commerce Park, 2950 Sferra Ave.
Members are asked to bring a labeled covered dish and table service.
This month’s meeting is earlier then usual to accommodate our speaker, Jim Clark, president of the International IUE/CWA and also Laura Asplen who is also with the International Union.
Canned goods and non-perishables will be collected this month for the Family Mission.
• Mercer County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in the community room of The Shenango Valley Library, Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon.
Peggy Ruggles will present Ghost Tales of Pennsylvania. Our state is replete with stories of the supernatural, unusual and unexplained. Sometimes these tales are humorous, often they are spine-tingling. Mrs. Ruggles will tell of “The Demon of the Pump,” “The Legend of Captain Jack,” “Have You Seen the Lockman?” and more.
Health
• Men 50 or older who have not had a prostate screening in the past year, have a family history of prostate cancer or are African American may qualify for a free prostate screening. UPMC Horizon will offer them from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 18 at the Womancare Center, 875 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
The screening includes an examination and a blood test by Dr. Paul Lange, board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics.

• Grove City Medical Center offers its annual Breast Cancer Screening from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 in the medical imaging department.
To qualify for participation, women must be older than 40, have had no mammogram for one year, and have no health insurance to cover mammography. At the screening, women will receive a free breast examination, important education material and a screening mammogram.

Fundraisers
• Volant Lions Club will host a ham dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at London Grange Hall, on state Route 258 just south of state Route 208.
Dinner includes scalloped potatoes, other sides, drinks and dessert, for $7 per adult or $3 per child under 12.
• Irwin Presbyterian Church, 3653 Georgetown Road, Stoneboro, will have its 58th annual buckwheat and pancake supper from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 18.
Cost is $7 for adults; $3.50 for children ages 6 to 10; and free for children 5 and under.
All proceeds benefit local mission projects.
• Mercer Nazarene Youth are taking orders for holiday poinsettias for $10 each. Colors available are pink, red, white and marble (red/white).

• Christ Lutheran Church, 396 Buhl Blvd., Sharon, is having a rummage/yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18.
The church will also be selling tickets for Lock, Stock & Barrel subs to help benefit the Reed Family Fund. The subs are a half of a #2 sub, which is chopped ham, salami and cheese. The price for each ticket is $4. Tickets, call 724-981-2070.
All proceeds will benefit the Reed Family Fund. Robbie Reed, a 2-year-old who is autistic, got lead poisoning from the paint in the family’s home. After several months awaiting lead removal, they are still not back in their home and the family has incurred many expenses.
Thrivent Financial will supplement any proceeds from these events.
• First Church of God, West Main Hill, Greenville, holds a braised steak dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18.
Menu includes mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, rolls, pie and drink. Cost is $8.
• Balm United Methodist Church, state Route 258, Blacktown, is having a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18.
There will be a bake sale and lunch will be available.

Holiday event
• The theme of this year’s corn maze is “Taking You to the Wild West.” Visit the Web site at www.coolspringsmaze.com to see an aerial view and to learn more about the maze.
The maze will be open weekends through Halloween, Oct. 31. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Friday; 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $6 for the maze, $4 for the hayride and $8 for both.
The maze is on U.S. Route 62, 3 1/2 miles northeast of Mercer, or 2 miles southwest of exit 121 of Interstate 79.

• Shenango Valley Sashayers Western Square Dance Club hold a plus dance beginning at 8 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Building, corner of Fisher Hill and Hall Avenue, Sharon.

• Greenville Area Leisure Services Association offers the following dances at the Rec. Center, 45 Alan Ave.:
– Elementary dance for 4th through 6th graders, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday.
– Jr. Hi dance, 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday. This dance is open to students in Greenville, Reynolds, Jamestown and Commodore Perry schools only.
Students will enjoy dancing to a local DJ, free pool and ping pong, and a chance to win door prizes. Dances are chaperoned by GALSA staff and volunteers and Reinhart Security. There is admission fees for both dances.

Reunion
• Greenville Road School reunion will be Oct. 18 at Tennessee Gas Social Hall, state Route 58, north of Mercer. Doors open at 10 a.m. and lunch is at noon.
Those attending are asked to bring a sack lunch. Coffee, cold drinks and cake will be available.
